Leonard “Rudy” Hanson was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 22, 1918. He served in the Navy during World War II and came back to the states to go to college at Bradley University in Peoria and later to the University of Michigan. He married Anne Marie Carroll in Peoria, Illinois, on March 11, 1944. They had three children, a son, Roger, and two daughters, Janis Herlihy and Karen McKelvey.
