The home was build in 1871 by Joseph Norton Olmsted. Mr. Olmsted owned a general store in Arlington Heights. In 1891, the home was rented out. In 1894, Anthony Kates purchased the house for $4,100. Mr. Kates started out in the hardware business and eventually went into the diary business with Richard Bray. From 1924 to 1967, Rosalie Heller and later her sister Mary Heller lived in the home.
