Tableau 25 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wied's Travels in the interior of North America. Mandan shrine outside of a summer villiage near Fort Clark and adjacent to a burial ground. The shrine consists of tall, hide-wrapped poles, with feathers which represent the sun and the moon.
