- Description
Example of a United Mine Workers of America union badge, from Local 728, Mount Olive, Illinois. Features a celluloid bar at the top, with the UMW logo of clasped hands. A celluloid plaque hangs on a chain below the bar. depicted on this plaque are the miners from Mount Olive that were killed in the Virden Massacre, October 12, 1898. The black ribbon indicates this badge was probably worn in memoriam for the miners.
