Tableau 32 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wied's Travels in the interior of North America. Portrait of two Assiniboine men. Pitapiu, at right wears a rawhide shield with an amulet, a whip hangs from his wrist. His hair is loose and he wears red face paint. The man at left wears a quilled, beaded shirt with leather fringe and he carries a gun. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text...
