Black and white postcard showing the Great Buddha of Kamakura, Japan. Also known as the Daibutsu of Kamakura, the bronze statue represents Amida Buddha, and is located on the grounds of the Kotokuin temple in Kamakura City. Originally gold plated, the monument dates to 1252 and was housed within a temple building that was destroyed in the tsunami of September 20, 1492. Only traces of gold-leaf remain around the ears.
