This place in Lucknow, India was constructed in the late 18th century to serve as the residence of the British Resident General. It grew to contain a garrison of British soldiers (many with families), with barracks, offices and a hospital. The Residency was the site of a prolonged siege during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
