The Mary A. Merrimam School (M.A.M.) and Orphanage opened in 1879 in Cawnpore (now Kanpur), India. The school was founded by the Woman's Union Misisonary Society of America. Grace Ward worked as a missionary under the auspices of the Woman's Union Missionary Society in the 1870s and 1880s doing teaching and missionary work in zenanas (parts of the Indian homes reserved only for women).
