St. Joseph's was built in 1905 to replace Saints Peter and Paul Church on First Street. Saints Peter and Paul, Libertyville's first Catholic church, was destroyed by fire in 1904. This early view shows St. Joseph's original steeple which was later struck by lightning and destroyed. Adjacent to the church is the rectory, built in 1910, and another residence.
