Dr. E. A. Elfeld, born April 23, 1868, in a log cabin in Franklin county, Missouri, left home at the age of 16 because his family objected to his declared intention of studying medicine. He attended public schools in Freeport and Chicago, Illinois, followed by graduation from the Hahnemann Medical College, a homeopathic college in St. Louis, in 1891.
