In 1959 gentlemen started to grow beards months in advance in anticipation of the September 1959 Eureka Pumpkin Festival - Eureka Centennial beard contest. This photograph of (left to right) Willis Wiegand, Joe Wiegand, and Bill Romersberger was taken in June 1959 in the neighboring town of Deer Creek, Tazewell County, Illinois, for one of the town's celebrations.
