When World War I was over, Arlington Heights planned to welcome her boys home. A large monument of granite was purchased and shipped from Barre, Vermont to honor the fallen heroes. The monument was installed in Memorial Park located on the triangle created by Fremont Street, Chestnut Avenue and Park Place. It was inscribed with the names of the 133 boys who served in the war.
