Tableau 15 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wied's Travels in the interior of North America. Landscape of the Missouri River from Fort Clark. Mandan indians are shown carrying goods on horseback and on foot across the icy terrain. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text of his atlas documenting their travels. These illustrations include 81 plates of aquatints.
