Petitioners ask that Governor Carlin pardon Hill, who was convicted of manslaughter in the March term, 1842, at the Sangamon County Cirucit Court, and was sentenced to one year and ten days in the state penitentiary. Petitioners state that Hill is "an elderly, respectable, and peaceful citizen" and was "highly provoked, by oft repeated and long continued abuse to strike the final blow...and had no intention of killing..."
