Military order, dated Feb. 5, 1696, to Major Symonds Epps of Ipswich, Mass. Fearing an attack both by sea and land by Indians in the coming spring, Epps is ordered in this document to prepare his militia regiment (Essex County), to keep a careful watch and generally be ready for such an attack. He is further instructed to communicate his state of preparation to Lieut. Gov. Stoughton before the tenth of March.
