A November 17, 1971, Bloomington, Illinois Pantagraph newspaper article reported that a long-haired man threatened Shirley Marsee with a knife to steal her car on Monday, November 15, 1971. The next day, the same suspect assaulted James Richard of Towanda at a farm owned by Mrs. Marjorie Hoopes and stole a truck owned by Mr. Richard's son-in-law, Emerson Guth.
