During World War II, Lieutenant Don Marshall was cited for courage under fire in Germany and was later wounded in battle and spent several months recovering in a military hospital. He also received a Purple Heart. In 1952 he joined the faculty at Western and taught political science for twenty-seven years. He was also a member of the Faculty Senate.
