William Thomas began as a farmer in 1835 in what is now Bloomington. Served as McLean co treasurer from 1853-1866, agent for the war fund during the Rebellion, built and equipped 2 steam sawmills, City Treasurer of Bloomington, held until death in 1881. Married to Catharine (Haines) Thomas. (Portrait and Biographical Album of McLean IL p. 440).
